Citizens with a Passion for Transformation
In a time when make-overs are a popular craze, a group of concerned Artists
and Designers have done some deep soul-searching to provide a tangible
solution to Urban America’s Youth issues. Most of the group, being young
and from lower to middle class backgrounds, decided to form an answer to
help fight off the increasing decades of repetitive and horrific situations that
exist in Urban neighborhoods nationwide that have produced generations of
exploitative and violent entertainment (music, videos) to match it.
The Instructors in Enjoy Art Design Group (EADG) are not intending to let
the youth get by with just a scribble of the pen or a stroke of the paint brush.
The activities in EADG programming recognize the importance of
informing and conversing with youth about positive alternatives and
solutions to the issues that are real to them. EADG then integrates creative
hands-on learning projects so that youth are able to enjoy the experience
(because they do work!) and make them fully aware of their community and
environmental impact.
EADG programming is focussed on ensuring that our youth receive a deep
rooting into how art is a tool for changing someone’s life; like the cards that
we donate to hospitals, and illustrations that we submit for United Nations
relief books… The children in our workshops learn the biographies of globe-
changers like George Washington Carver who also was a painter and piano
player, and Frida Kahlo who was tragically wounded but became world
renown by painting from a bed that she spent almost half her life in.
“This is the foundation that we want to give them; that no one can take
away if they receive it- that there is always a solution to any problem, and to
encourage them to take pathways that avoid the pitfalls that are trapping
the people around them.”
“Stewardship is so easily intertwined into all of the subjects that we can
teach and between the experienced Instructors involved and the benefits of
art integrated learning are enormous and work miracles for the inner health
of inner city children.” The Founders are excited about their plans for 2007
and look forward to the positive impact that their efforts will have on the
lives that they reach and everyone else in the communities who benefit
from the changes that we make to the landscape. The organization provides
and gives free books to youth and make no hesitation to promote literacy
and encourage them to show themselves approved no matter what their life
goals are.
“Renovations and make-overs are great, but they are tools for transformation
when they are added to alternatives that lead to a healthier lifestyle, and
give room for even more change when you add constructive leadership.”
